Newcombe House public hearing
In their role of making strategic planning decisions, the Mayor may occasionally take over an application, therefore becoming the local planning authority. They must then hold a public hearing before deciding whether or not to grant planning permission.
In this instance, the Mayor, Sadiq Khan, took over the application for the redevelopment of Newcombe House.
Background to the public hearing
On 14 March 2018 Kensington & Chelsea advised the Mayor that it was minded to refuse permission for the redevelopment proposals for Newcombe House.
On 26 March 2018, having considered a report on the case, the Mayor notified Kensington & Chelsea that he would act as the local planning authority for the purposes of determining the planning applications (under article 7 of the Mayor of London Order and the powers conferred by Section 2A of the 1990 Town and Country Planning Act).
The local authority for this case is PP/17/05782. The GLA reference is 3109a.

Following revisions to the application, a public consultation was held from 13 July 2018 - 30 August 2018.
Extension of consultation
On 31 July, the Mayor extended the consultation period. Originally the consultation deadline was 10 August 2018 but this was extended to 30 August to allow more time to respond to the revisions made to the scheme. All representations received prior to the Representation Hearing were taken into account prior to the Mayor making his decision.
